GENESEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An off-duty Michigan police officer was found dead in her home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday.

MLive.com reports that Genesee Township Police responded to a call about a death investigation involving an officer when they found Grand Blanc Officer Tammy Bice, 37, dead inside her home. Bice had worked for the Grand Blanc PD since 2015.

"Off duty, she was an extraordinary person who had a love for animals and showed that love by being actively involved in the Pets in Peril program in Flint," Chief Brian Lipe's statement said. "Our condolences go out to Tammy's family. We are honored and blessed to have had the opportunity to have worked with such a wonderful officer and person. She will be greatly missed."

Bice’s death is still being investigated.
