A Denver police officer and a woman are expected to survive after an early morning shooting in a Denver neighborhood sent both of them to the hospital.
The shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday. Both the officer and woman have non-life threatening injuries and a male suspect, identified later Sunday as 25-year-old Elijah Ruff, is in police custody.
Initially, officers were responding to a call of a shooting, the result of a family disturbance. When officers and responding paramedics arrived, they found a woman in front of a house who had been shot. As officers and medics were helping that woman, DPD said Ruff shot at them. One officer was hit in the leg and DPD officers fired back.
The officer and woman were both taken to hospital where they are in stable condition. Police officers blocked off an area around the house and a few blocks away into the neighborhood as a SWAT Unit went into the house and arrested Ruff.
