A Texas DPS State Trooper was shot Saturday night during a shootout near the US-Mexico border.
The Trooper has been identified only as Trooper Sanchez, so far by the Hempstead Police Department, and he is currently in critical, but stable conditions according to authorities.
The trooper was rushed to the Edinburg hospital after getting shot several times. He was “fighting for his life,” according to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra’s Twitter feed.
Victor Alejandro Godinez was arrested early Sunday morning as the suspect in the shooting. He is a U.S. Citizen and resident of Edinburg according to local officials.
Reports indicate that Trooper Sanchez was responding to a traffic accident Saturday and one of the drivers fled on foot. When Trooper Sanchez located the subject, he was shot.
